Online Banking Still On the Rise in Most Regions

More than 25 percent of the world’s population is using the Internet to access banking services, but on one part of the globe the extent of online banking penetration is actually decreasing, according to comScore.

    Not surprisingly, North America is home to the world’s most web-connected banking population, with 45.0 percent of its residents using those services. And Asia Pacific is seeing the fastest growth, with 22 percent penetration in April 2012 as opposed to 16.9 percent a year prior.

    But usage is shrinking in Africa, comScore estimates, down from 9.2 percent to 8.8 percent. And while North America is continuing to see growth, that growth is slowing: the usage numbers for April 2012 are just 1.2 percentage points higher than those from a year ago.
