UK Mobile Wallet Could Get Summer Go-Ahead

The mobile operators behind a new digital wallet platform for the U.K. are preparing for launch, and may receive necessary regulatory approval as soon as this summer.

Vodafone, O2, and Everything Everywhere are the companies behind the new mobile wallet platform, code named “Project Oscar.” Concerns from rival companies like Google and PayPal expressed earlier this year had the potential to slow the project down, but the Financial Times now reports that the telcos are “encouraged” by initial feedback from the European Commission.

The Times cites two sources that say the project will be approved with “few or no remedies,” although no formal decision has yet been reached.
