WordPress users worldwide will now be able to pay for upgrades such as ad-free blogging and custom design with virtual currency Bitcoins. The blog publishing platform decided to allow the virtual currency because other payment methods were keeping many countries away. PayPal alone blocks access from over 60 countries and may credit card companies do too.
Bitcoin will allow users in those countries to access the paid services on the WordPress platform without the scrutiny of traditional payment methods. Bitcoin has no central authority and has no way of removing entire countries from payment access.
WordPress’ checkout area now has a Bitcoin section where the amount due is specified in BTC. The platform provides the address of a wallet created for each transaction and the payment is processed in seconds. WordPress have partnered with BitPay to process the payments.

Not WordPress services are available to pay for with Bitcoins but the platform is working on it to create further inclusion to publishing.
