D.C. Cabs Struggle To Combat Ridesharing

Washington D.C.’s taxi fleet is struggling to compete with newer ridesharing services, The Washington Post reported on October 27.

Area taxi drivers report that new requirements, such as the installation of credit card readers are too costly, and that the timeline for the upgrades is not realistic. Further, some D.C. taxi drivers say they are not receiving thousands of dollars in fares from new credit card machines.

“They try to portray us as being against modernization, but we’re not,” Ahmed Djebbour, a driver who has filed a lawsuit to stop the new rules, told the media outlet. “It’s just total chaos.”
