Italian Transports Trial NFC Mobile Ticketing By Telecom Italia, SIA

Telecom Italia and SIA, a payments technology provider, has announced plans to launch an NFC ticketing pilot with three transportation operators in Italy, reports NFC World. By the end of 2013 transport operators in the Naples and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy will be given the opportunity to trial the NFC ticketing program. Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna (TPER), ANM Napoli and Start Romagna will give commuters the option to purchase mobile tickets stored in an NFC SIM. These mobile tickets can be purchased, topped-up, and redeemed via Telecom Italia’s TIM wallet application. The NFC ticketing scheme has already been introduced in Milan and Teleccom Italia said they will offer the platform to other transport areas and mobile operators throughout the country in the near future.
