Kenya: 30% Of GDP Spent Through Mobile Phones
Kenya is known for its pioneering payments ecosystem and high mobile phone penetration rates. According to Quartz, the country now boasts 19 million M-Pesa users – meaning almost every adult in the country is using the service. The availability of M-Pesa, combined with a lack of access to banking has led to 31% of the country’s GDP being spent on a mobile phone.
