New York City Council Approves Text Donations

New Yorkers can now make campaign donations by sending a text messages, the New York Daily News reported on November 27.

Donations will be capped at $99 per person, for each candidate and each election cycle.

“We hope to make it easier for people who may not be otherwise connected to political campaigns to participate,” sponsor Gale Brewer (D-Manhattan) told the Daily News in an interview. “The bill is a smart way to merge technology and good government.”
