Online Commerce Rises In Spain In 2012

The Spanish online commerce market grew in 2012, despite the country’s poor economic performance. A new study, carried out by the Spanish commission for the telecommunications market, has found that online commerce brought over two billion euros to the country just in the last three months of the year. This volume represents an 11.7% increase from the same period in 2011.

The main indicators of growth were registered in the tourism industry – travel agencies and airlines – followed by ground transport, event tickets, and gambling. Traditional eCommerce sectors like clothes, electronics and food were left to the bottom.

However, this study does not take into account PayPal or direct transfer transactions, which could hide an even greater increase in sales.
