Senator Warren Slams Opponents Of Richard Cordray Appointment

Senator Elizabeth Warren (Mass. D) attacked Republicans opposing Richard Cordray’s appointment as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in prepared comments on Thursday.

“Blocking Rich Cordray is about keeping the game rigged, keeping the game rigged so that consumers remain in the dark- and a few bad actors can rake in big profits,” Warren said. “Blocking Rich Cordray is about weakening the agency.”

Cordray’s nomination is still up for vote in the Senate, but 43 of 45 Republicans are blocking his confirmation as protest, demanding that the CFPB’s current structure change.

The White House was forced to nominate Cordray for CFPB director twice after President Obama’s initial appointment was ruled unconstitutional.
