Zynga Lays Off More Than 500 Employees

In a decision that will close the company’s outposts in New York, Dallas and Los Angeles, online gaming company Zynga announced that it will lay off nearly one-in-five employees. The move will help Zynga restructure so that it can redouble efforts on the mobile market, according to AllThingsD.

“Sources said the reason for the more substantive cuts now, after earlier ones in the fall, is because the decline of its web business has been more drastic than anticipated … while the rise of its mobile business slower than needed,” AllThingsD reports.

A drop in popularity in social media games, such as those on Facebook, may also be contributing to the company’s troubles.
