“Small businesses are the backbone of communities and any support to encourage success, reward passion and entrepreneurial spirit is welcomed,’ said supporter of the project and Minister for Small Business Bruce Billson.”

AmEx is offering the grant through part of its Shop Small program in Australia, an initiative to support small and medium sized companies nationwide.

“American Express founded Shop Small in Australia in 2013 to reconnect consumers with small businesses and breathe life into the small business economy,” said Rachel Stocks, the programs managing director, reports Hospitality Magazine. “American Express is dedicated to rewarding passionate small business owners for following their dreams – even when times get tough, and for day in, day out, being committed to their local communities.”

Businesses are automatically put into the running for the grant as soon as an AmEx card is swiped at their location.
