eBay-Argos Click-Collect Partnership Moves On To Phase Two

U.K. eBay customers will now have more options for how they receive their goods from the online marketplace as the company has announced an expansion of the “Click and Collect” program it runs in partnership with Argos store chain.

Initially launched in 2013 with 50 sellers and 150 Argos locations, the service proved popular enough with customers that by the end of 2014, eBay forecasts that around 65K sellers will have goods available for pick-up at Argos.  That number is anticipated to swell to 80K by the end of 2015.

“Retail has changed and shoppers are in the driving seat like never before. They want to shop anytime, anywhere, on any device and British shoppers love to Click & Collect. It’s a service being rapidly adopted by larger retailers and this partnership with Argos now gives tens of thousands of sellers the chance to capitalize on Click & Collect, even if they have no high street presence of their own,” Tanya Lawler, eBay U.K. Vice President, noted in a released statement.

To use the service, customers need only select Click and Collect as the delivery option, and then choose an Argos location to pick up their goods.  Sellers need to be cleared and verified by eBay, but after that initial hurdle the rest of the commerce aspect of the sale (minus delivery of the good) becomes eBay’s responsibility.

“I’m delighted the operational trial in a number of Argos stores around the UK has been successful. The next stage in the agreement is to have more sellers, more stores and more volume to assess how we can scale this partnership for the benefit of consumers, Argos and eBay. Fulfillment is the next retail battleground and Argos’ unique model is well placed to leverage this,” Argos CEO David Robinson said.
