Former NBA Player Fakes An EasyPay Purchase To Steal $14K

Former NBA player Rex Chapman learned the hard way that sometimes a career change into criminality is more difficult than the television show Breaking Bad would lead one to believe.  Chapman was arrested on nine counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking stolen property after police discovered that he had stolen more than $14,000 worth of merchandise from a Scottsdale, Arizona Apple Store, according to CBS Sports.

    Chapman faked using the iPhone-based EasyPay system, which allows users to ring themselves up through the Apple Store application without the assistance of an employee. Chapman wasn’t actually scanning or paying for anything and instead was just putting on a mime act to give the impression that he was paying. After leaving the store, Chapman would visit the local pawn shop to offload the pilfered products at a profit.

    Chapman  was the  first player to ever sign to the Charlotte Hornets, then played for Washington, Miami, and Phoenix before retiring in 2000.
