It’s been a good ten months for Crowdfunding start-up Indiegogo. Following a very successful $40 million Series B funding round in January 2014, the company is following up quickly with a “celebrity” fundraising round which has tapped the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Megan Smith Max Levchin, Maynard Webb, Dan Benton, Tim Draper, Dawn Lepore, and Hans Morris.
“The key here is the people and getting them involved,” said CEO Slava Rubin reports TechCrunch. “We are looking for the incredible operating experience all of them have and because they’ve created and run massive growth companies.”
Though the round will bring in millions in funding, Rubin says he is more interested in the expertise in marketing and bringing a company to scale that veterans like Branson, Smith and Levchin bring to the table with their dollars.
Rubin further notes the funding will go toward expanding the product globally, increasing personalization and making it more mobile friendly.
