Target Beefs Up eCommerce Operations With Injection Of Outside Talent

Target has announced the hire of three new top-level executives to help strengthen the retailer’s eCommerce and technology efforts.

Founder of e-commerce software provider ShopIgniter Alan Wizemann come on board as vice president of Target.com and mobile product. Wizemann has been consulting for Target and worked with the group that put out Target’s Cartwhell Mobile App, reports InternetRetailer.

Also joining the executive team is David Weissman.  Weissman comes from BCBG Max Azria Group Inc., where he was executive vice president of eCommerce and Omnichannel.  He will be leading Dermstore, the online retailer of skin care products that Target acquired last year.

Apart from advancing the eCommerce agenda, the hiring spree also seems aimed at shoring up the company’s IT function—which has come under particular scrutiny in wake of the massiave breach that rocked the firm in late 2013. Jim Fisher will join Target as senior vice president, infrastructure and operations at Target Technology Services.  He will oversee Target’s technical infrastructure and operations. In the past, Fisher has worked for First Data Corp., The Home Depot, Macy’s and IBM.

“Certainly these hires speak to the emphasis and energy we’re putting into our digital transformation,” said Eddie Baeb, a Target spokesman, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “We’re actively looking to continue to bolster talent both digitally and throughout the company.”
