The Zeebox, an app co-founded by former BBC iPlayer exec Anthony Rose, has relaunched its social TV app for consumers as Beamly., according to Tech Crunch.
Zeebox enabled users to directly buy items they’ve seen onscreen using their mobile device. The new version will have the same live-chat functionality and screen sync technology that came with Zeebox, but the enhanced Beamly will be relevant to users even when they are not watching their favorite shows.
Beamly incorporates a wider range of content discovery and social functionality designed to keep users interacting with the app all day long. This is done through news feeds and social conversations about favorite shows.
The company is hoping to drive up engagement with the app, even when users are not watching live TV.
