Emergent Payments Bulks Up With PayPal, Worldpay, Visa Execs

Global payments company, Emergent Payments, is gearing up to add muscle to its business in emerging markets by hiring executives from leading payments companies PayPal, Worldpay and Visa.

The new executives to join the top ranks at Emergent Payments include its new CFO, Joseph Podulka, an eBay veteran who also worked for PayPal New Ventures and PayPal Europe for several years as head of finance.

The company’s new business development director will be Rob Freedman, who previously worked as business development manager at Worldpay.

Also joining the company will be its new vice president of merchant solutions and strategy, Pawan Chawla, who has previous experience working as a senior director of merchant integration and technical account management at Visa.

The move comes after the Palo Alto, California-based company rebranded itself as Emergent Payments in June this year with a focus on payments for global digital enterprises. Prior to its relaunch, the eight-year-old company was called “Live Gamer,” which helped game developers monetize their content globally, according to the company blog.

"This is an exciting time for Emergent Payments as we grow the business to address the $1.7T revenue opportunity in emerging markets for our customers," said Mitch Davis, CEO of Emergent Payments.

"The relaunch was very well-received by both our customers and the industry. Now, we are adding further international payments experience to our team with Joseph, Rob and Pawan. With over twenty years' payments and eCommerce experience between them, we are well-positioned to increase our market share in the global payments space," he added.

Emergent Payment's PAY+ platform offers a secure, scalable product that lets global merchants accept over 200 top performing payment methods in more than 180 countries.
