Creditcall, which makes EMV-ready payments gateways, is linking up with financial services company Gravity Payments, with a focus on EMV migration, the companies said in a Tuesday (Sept. 22) press release.
The EMV platforms will be geared towards VARs, ISVs and developers. As has been widely reported, the Oct. 1 liability shift is coming. And soon. And, noted the companies in the release, Creditcall’s ChipDNA, which operates across a variety of operating systems, including iOS, Android, Windows and Linux, will offer a streamlined path to EMV migration when paired with the GravityPay payments platform.

Through the combination, developers are able to add PIN pads to POS systems that are already in operation. That in turn ensures EMV readiness among merchants through point-to-point encryption, which covers sensitive data and renders it useless in the event of a data breach.
The devices are in the process of being certified with processors across the United States and Canada.
Even as the liability shift looms, only 22 percent of small businesses have prepared for the event. Yet, 33 percent of respondents in a recent survey said compliance remains too costly a hurdle. In addition, the consumer side of the equation comes up a bit short, as roughly 59 percent of consumers have said they lack cards that are EMV-compliant. Retail groups, in the meantime, have been battling claims that they are woefully unprepared to meet the Oct. 1 EMV deadline.
In a statement accompanying the announcement between Gravity Payments and Creditcall, Shawn Wright, Gravity Payments director of partner relations, said that “ISVs and VARs face many roadblocks when migrating their solutions to EMV. They are finding the process of upgrading and certifying their applications to support EMV payments complicated, costly and resource-intensive. Creditcall solves these challenges with its ChipDNA EMV SDKs.”
Gravity Payments has a customer base of more than 13,000 independent businesses across the U.S.
