The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that three major investors who plan to participate in the IPO said Anthropic is unlikely to achieve the expected valuation of $1.5 trillion after Thursday’s selloff. One said the valuation could be closer to $1 trillion, per the report. The report did not name the investors.

Anthropic executives and the company’s advisers have avoided committing to specific plans throughout the IPO process, and they are expected to meet within days to discuss the next moves, according to the report.

Reuters reported Thursday that four people familiar with investor discussions said potential investors are skeptical that Anthropic can move ahead with its planned roadshow next week and a November listing. Even if the company and investors agree on a valuation, Anthropic could choose to delay its IPO until the current market turmoil dies down, per the report. The report did not name the sources of these claims.

Anthropic did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment on the reports.

Reuters reported Thursday that the day’s selloff erased $2.5 trillion in market value from Nasdaq and was the market’s biggest one-day drop since April 2025. The report attributed the drop to investor concerns that Democratic victories in Tuesday’s elections could mean more scrutiny for data center construction and other AI-related issues.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the selloff impacted companies across the tech sector, including chip makers, power producers, cloud-computing providers, software makers, contractors and data center developers. The Magnificent Seven group of tech giants lost a collective $1 trillion in market value, according to the report.

Anthropic filed for its IPO on Oct. 26 without setting a price range. Days later, on Monday (Nov. 2), Anthropic filed an amendment to its registration statement that added some information that had been left blank. As in the original filing, the company did not state the size or valuation of its listing in the amendment, PYMNTS reported at the time.
