This integration establishes RLUSD as an additional payment rail on Cross River’s platform, in the same environment as traditional rails, so that businesses can leverage the strengths of both options, according to the release.

“By integrating RLUSD into Cross River’s existing stablecoin infrastructure, we’re expanding on capabilities already in development, enabling FinTechs to move between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, settle cross-border payments and treasury movement 24/7, and access ACH, wires and real-time payment through a single banking platform and API connection,” Adam Goller, head of Fintech banking at Cross River, said in the release.

RLUSD is purpose-built for institutional use and is issued on the XRPL blockchain, which enables transactions to settle in 3 to 5 seconds at a fraction of a cent and move 24/7. XRPL has settled over $1.3 trillion in value to date, according to the release.

Markus Infanger, senior vice president, RippleX at Ripple, said in the release that the integration of RLUSD and XRPL with Cross River’s regulated banking platform marks a step toward stablecoins transforming payments by becoming part of the banking structure businesses already use.

“That combination can make it easier for FinTechs to move money in real time, across borders and around the clock, while keeping the experience simple for the businesses and customers they serve,” Infanger said.

PYMNTS reported in September that the industry is working to ensure end-users start treating stablecoins as an always-on layer for moving liquidity, extending credit and settling financial obligations.

The digital dollar has been showing up as an underlying component inside products that already look like recognizable financial services, including credit facilities, card programs, cross-border treasury, custody, settlement and developer infrastructure, the report said.

When Cross River Bank parent company CRB Group raised $50 million in March to continue expanding its embedded finance capabilities, Chairman, Founder and CEO Gilles Gade said the new funding would support the company’s strategy that includes “the bundling of crypto, lending, payments and cards on one platform with a sophisticated AI layer to deliver innovative solutions with exceptional compliance and risk management.”
