PayPal Enabled More Than 40 Million Purchases From China In 2015

More than 40 million consumers, or 25 percent of all PayPal users, bought at least one item from Chinese retailers using the service in 2015, according to a new report from PayPal.

There are about 188 million PayPal accounts worldwide, and according to PayPal’s data, 47 million of them used the service to buy from a Chinese eCommerce site last year. PayPal spun off from eBay last year and already has 20 offices in Chinese cities but plans to open 10 more.

PayPal did not release figures on how many users in Chinese it has or how many of them might have made domestic or international purchases through the service.

Electronic products led all orders from Chinese eTailers at 30 percent, followed by fashion products at 20 percent. JD.com and LightInTheBox were the two sites that PayPal users shopped the most in China.

The countries with the largest percentage of PayPal shoppers that used Chinese eTailers were Israel at 60 percent, Russia at 52 percent, Singapore at 37 percent, Nigeria at 36 percent and Australia at 32 percent.
