Twitter Adds Paytm for Tips Payments

Paytm, Twitter, Twitter Tips

Social media platform Twitter will let users make Tips payments through Indian payment gateway Paytm, according to a report in The Hindu Business Line Wednesday (Feb. 16).

Twitter debuted the option for users to Tips to their profiles in May through a beta test with “influential and diverse voices on the service, including journalists, creators and more,” allowing people to send and receive cash. Twitter rolled out Tips to all users 18 and older in India in November last year.

Users can turn Tips on or off from the “Edit Profile” section of their Twitter accounts. To send money, users can tap the icon to see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled.

Tips can be sent as cash or bitcoin, and are sent off Twitter through third-party payment services. Users who have turned on Tips have an icon next to their profiles.

“Through Paytm’s interface, people will be able to support individuals and organizations across India via multiple modes of payment including UPI, credit and debit cards, net banking, wallets and more,” Twitter said in its announcement.

Twitter added Razorpay as an additional payment provider for Tips in India last year. The Tips function is available in multiple Indian languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil.
