Payroll App Provider Ranking Sees Some Big Gaps Between Contenders’ Scores

Sometimes payday seems a long way off. There’s a similar feeling in PYMNTS’ latest Provider Ranking of Payroll apps because, in some cases, there’s a gap of 10, 20 or even more points between the scores of competitors. One contender passes by, and then there’s a long wait before the next one appears.

As a result, this month’s top 10 includes apps with a wide range of scores and an 81-point difference between the leader and the 10th-place finisher. Still, there’s a close race at the front, with the runner-up just two points behind.

Let’s take a closer look.

The Top Five

Topping the list again this month is Paychex Flex. And, like last time, it has earned a perfect score of 100.

Keeping the runner-up position, as it did last time, is Paycor. This app is two points behind with a score of 98.

After a 10-point gap in the field, there’s the third-place contender, Alliance MyPay. This app has achieved a score of 88.

Following another space in the field — 11 points this time — there’s the competitor in the fourth position. QuickBooks Payroll checks in this month with a score of 77.

Nine points behind that and running fifth, there’s Zenefits. This app has a score of 68.

The Top 10

Running right behind that and holding on to the No. 6 position is Rippling. With a score that’s five points higher than last month — now sitting at 67 — this app is one of our movers and shakers.

After those two contenders running nearly neck-and-neck, there’s a 20-point gap in the field. In seventh place, there’s Square Payroll with a score of 47.

Next up, each with a score of 46, are Payrollguru, which held this spot last time, and TriNet, which has moved up two positions since last month. TriNet has also added seven points to its score, making it this month’s top mover and shaker.

Holding the ninth spot, as it did last time, is RUN Powered By ADP. This app has a score of 45.

Joining the top 10 this month in the final position is SurePayroll. With a score of 19, this provider of online payroll and related services closes out this month’s edition of PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Payroll apps.
