Report Estimates 250M iBeacons Could Be In Use By 2014

More than 250 million Apple iBeacons could be in use at U.S. stores by 2014, a new report from TechCrunch revealed.

The news follows a wide-scale rollout last Friday at its Apple store locations. Some stores, according to the media outlet, have as many as 20 iBeacons deployed.

TechCrunch indicated that the strength of the platform could be its compatibility with past Apple technology.

“Every iOS device since the iPhone 4s and iPad 3rd gen is already capable of being either an iBeacon receiver or transmitter, as long as it’s properly configured,” the report said.

The media outlet said that with up to 190 million iOS devices capable of becoming iBeacons, and holiday sales expected to remain strong, this figure is a possibility.
