OpenTable Overhauls Dining App
Online restaurant reservation service OpenTable announced Thursday (Dec. 4) that its newly-designed website has now gone live for diners across six nations.
In addition to visual upgrades, the new OpenTable site expands users’ ability to explore a restaurant before a reservation is made through photos, reviews and special offers. Once a reservation is booked, diners can share the event in their personal calendars and invite friends, launching OpenTable into the social media realm.
The new site is live in the US, Canada, Germany, Medico, Japan and the UK.
OpenTable’s website overhaul is only the latest effort for the company to broaden the customer experience. Last October, the company launched the Pay with OpenTable mobile payments option in Washington, D.C. The initiative allows users to upload payment information on the OpenTable iPhone app so diners don’t have to wait for the bill at the end of their meal.
The mobile payment option first launched last March and has already spread to New York City and San Francisco; the company expects about 20 cities to enable the payment option in the near future.
Priceline finalized its deal to acquire OpenTable for about $2.6 billion last June.
