Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said President Joe Biden was misleading after Biden tweeted that inflation could be curbed if wealthy corporations were forced to “pay their fair share,” Bloomberg reported Saturday (May 14).
Biden tweeted on Friday (May 13), “You want to bring down inflation? Let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.”
In a response tweet, Bezos suggested that Biden’s tweet be looked over by “the newly created Disinformation Board,” adding that perhaps there should be a “Non Sequitur Board instead.”
“Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss,” Bezos wrote. “Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection.”

Amazon paid $3.7 billion in U.S. taxes on a global revenue of $469 billion in 2021, according to the report. The company is often criticized for not paying enough in federal taxes for its size.
Bezos, the second richest man in the world, is also often seen by critics as the “poster boy” for income inequality. The exchange was the first public back-and-forth between Bezos and Biden, per the report.
Bezos and Amazon were also common targets of attack by former President Donald Trump. Trump had a habit of blaming critical stories from The Washington Post on his personal feud with its owner, Bezos.
Last week, PYMNTS wrote that Amazon’s stock has fallen 40% in six months, hitting a two-year low. The company was trying to remedy this by expanding its Alexa voice-activated devices.

Alongside expanding the Alexa ecosystem, the company is reportedly also looking at growth in the defensive healthcare sector.
In a company blog post, Amazon said users would be able to receive “comfort knowing their loved ones can easily check in on them through the activity feed” with the new Alexa upgrades. The upgrades include Circle of Support, which will let up to 10 remote caregivers assist, monitor and communicate with an aging or homebound person through text and various alerts.
