The cyber-attacks that affected thousands of its Israeli citizens are “a breach of sovereignty comparable to a terrorist operation,” stated Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said in a speech over the weekend, according to the Toronto Sun.
“Israel has active capabilities for striking at those who are trying to harm it, and no agency or hacker will be immune from retaliatory action,” he continued.
Last week, more than 400,000 of Israelis found their private credit card information published online. The cyber-attack was carried out by a hacker believed to be based in Saudi Arabia, said Israeli officials.
“The data theft, which appeared to focus on commercial websites, was one of the worst Israel has said it has faced,” reports the Toronto Sun.
