    7-Eleven has inked a distribution agreement with prepaid card marketer NetSpend to sell its Visa Prepaid cards at 5,000 of its locations across the U.S.

    PYMNTS.com caught up with Margaret Chabris, 7-Eleven’s Director of Corporate Communications, to chat about the deal and what it means for the company’s prepaid sector in the short and long term.

    We team with several prepaid providers, not just one, in order to offer options to meet the need of our convenience-oriented customers. We also offer prepaid debit cards from GreenDot and Western Union. We are working with NetSpend because of the many services they provide and NetSpend has a very loyal customer base.

    What new benefits will the partnership yield for 7-Eleven customers?

    We are now the largest outlet from NetSpend and expect our locations are very convenient for many of NetSpend’s customers. And these customers can pick up many other daily items like fresh food, beverage, health and beauty products, hot cup of coffee, a Big Gulp or Slurpee and in many locations fill their gasoline tanks.

    Is this 7-Eleven’s first foray into prepaid payments?

    No, we have been in this business for at least four years with companies like Green Dot.

    Any plans for increased mobile payment options at 7-Eleven stores?

    We are certainly looking at those options.
