Commerce Bank parent company Commerce Bancshares increased its net income year over year to $155 million in the third quarter, up from $141.5 million in the same quarter in 2025, thanks in part to its diversified business model, the company said in a Tuesday (Oct. 20) press release.
“Commerce delivered another solid quarter, with strong profitability, broad-based loan growth, continued momentum across our fee businesses and excellent credit quality,” Commerce Bancshares CEO John Kemper said in the release. “Ending loan balances grew at an annualized rate of more than 7% during the quarter, led by continued strength in our commercial and wealth segments. These results reflect the durability of our diversified business model and our team’s continued focus on serving our customers.”

Commerce Bank added investment banking capabilities and enhanced its ability to support business owners by completing its acquisition of St. Louis-based boutique investment banking firm Nolan & Associates on Oct. 1, the day after the end of the third quarter. Nolan & Associates serves middle-market clients across the United States, Commerce Bank said in an Oct. 1 press release.
“Their addition strengthens our ability to serve middle-market companies and business owners with a broader range of strategic and financial advisory services,” Bob Holmes, chairman and CEO of Commerce Bank—St. Louis, said in the Oct. 1 release.
That announcement came nine months after Commerce Bancshares completed another acquisition, that of FineMark Holdings, the parent company of FineMark National Bank & Trust. When that merger closed on Jan. 1, Commerce said it had become the 15th largest bank-managed trust company based on assets under management and had gained new locations for its private banking and wealth management business.
In an earnings highlights presentation released Tuesday, Commerce said its FineMark systems conversion is scheduled for February 2027 “to provide additional time for testing and team readiness” and that its “financial expectations and synergy targets remain unchanged.”
While Commerce Bancshares’ core banking footprint consists of five states in the Midwest, the company has seven wealth management offices in four states outside that area and seven commercial offices in six states outside the core area, according to the presentation.
