A newly released report from IDC projects that tablet shipments in the fourth quarter of 2013 will surpass the number of desktop computer units sold, All Things D reported on September 12.

    The research showed that smartphones are also surging in popularity. IDC forecasts that 1.4 billion smartphones will be sold in 2015, a figure that will account for two-thirds of the smart device market.
