The company’s new XRPL AI Starter Kit supports payments that use the x402 protocol, the XRP token and the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin, and it enables artificial intelligence (AI) agents to transact for application programming interfaces (APIs), compute and other digital services, Ripple said in a Wednesday (June 10) press release.

The XRP Ledger offers many of the capabilities required for agentic payments, including fast settlement, low and predictable costs, and native payment functionality, according to the release.

The blockchain features transactions that confirm or expire, with no ambiguous pending state; predictable transaction costs, with the cost known in advance of the operation; native multicurrency payments and a built-in decentralized exchange (DEX); and no smart contract execution risk. For institutional deployments, it provides built-in controls such as escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization and trust lines, the release said.

The XRP Ledger has run continuously since 2012, with no transaction rollbacks, per the release.

Ripple is launching the XRPL AI Starter Kit in phases, with the components announced Wednesday making up the first phase, according to the release.

“We’re taking an intentional approach, focused on the tools and infrastructure that support the workflows AI agents are beginning to execute today,” Ripple said in the release. “As the ecosystem evolves, future phases of the starter kit will be shaped by developer feedback and emerging agentic payment use cases.”

This announcement came on the same day that Mastercard said that Ripple is among the more than 30 initial partners collaborating with it on the new Mastercard Agent Pay for Machines.

Mastercard Agent Pay for Machines is a service that allows AI agents to complete transactions among themselves, and Ripple is one of the partners helping Mastercard validate priority use cases, establish common rules and accelerate adoption across industries, Mastercard said in a Wednesday press release.

Ripple shared a link to the Mastercard press release in a Wednesday post on LinkedIn and said: “As AI agents begin transacting on behalf of businesses, payments need more than speed. They need trust, controls and clear rules for how value moves. We’re helping build the infrastructure for trusted agent-driven payments, with the XRP Ledger and RLUSD helping lay the foundation for the future of commerce.”
