Counting Change With the Latest Credit Card App Provider Ranking

Chase Mobile

Look here, thrill-seekers: This is the PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Credit Card Apps. It’s not an amusement park. It’s no day at the beach, and not a jungle gym. This is serious business.

That’s what we would normally say at the start of this specific ranking, as credit card apps tend to stick rigidly to their ranks month in and month out. And while this update begins in that typical smooth and staid fashion, the ending packs a wallop. Like tequila, but without the hangover.

Interest piqued, is it? Excellent. That is the principle behind overt sensationalism.

Not that we would ever do such a thing. Now let’s run the rankings … before the asteroid hits.

The Top Five

Capital One takes No. 1 for another cycle, as do all products hawked by Samuel L. Jackson.

That’s, like, App Marketing 101. Do try to keep up.

At No. 2, it’s the Chase Mobile app. They stay at or near the top, no matter what.

Your No. 3 this time out is the same as last month: the patriotic sounding Bank of America Mobile Banking app.

Another stalwart of the top five around here is Wells Fargo Mobile, taking No. 4 like a pony ride.

Ah, but now things start to get exciting, and deviate from their typical path.

It begins innocently enough, with Credit One Bank Mobile sticking at No. 5 — its usual hangout — but it now finds itself in a rare tie this high up.

That comes in the form of Discover Mobile gaining one spot to enter the top five.

Welcome, Discover. Everything’s free in our Top 5 VIP Lounge, so put your app away.

The Top 10

We continue with another gainer. It’s American Express, up one chart position to No. 6.

The rising of apps roars on with MySynchrony also up a spot, taking No. 7.

It’s kind of a big deal when an app rises two spots in a single cycle, which is precisely what Cards — Mobile Wallet has managed, now occupying the No. 8 slot. Keep that rally going.

Now for the totally unexpected. Not one, but two new apps catapult into the card rankings — and it’s a tie, which somehow makes it even more fascinating to app geeks (like us).

New to PYMNTS’ Provider Ranking of Credit Card Apps at No. 9 is the Petal Credit Card app, tying there with another new arrival, the Tally credit card consolidation app. Tally-ho, yo.

Taking us out (and dropping one chart position) is the PREMIER Credit Card app at No. 10.

That’s the resilience of capitalism at work. Drops a spot, but stays at the top (sigh).

Sorry to get all misty. It (probably) won’t happen again.
