i2c, Bancrédito Join Forces to Debut Amex Black Card for Puerto Rico

Digital payment and banking provider i2c has joined forces with Puerto Rico’s Bancrédito International Bank & Trust Corporation to launch a new American Express Black Card in Puerto Rico, according to a Wednesday (Oct. 6) press release.

The Bancrédito Black American Express Card features interactive voice response technology in English and Spanish, powered by i2c. The card also offers contactless technology for purchases, a metal presentation, curated benefits, travel memberships and a loyalty program, among other features, the release said.

i2c, which was founded in 2001, has been partnering with American Express since 2019 to offer plug-and-play payment products to the Latin America and Caribbean region.

“We are excited to partner with i2c to power cutting-edge payment solutions for our clients and to connect them to the American Express brand and network,” said Frances M. Díaz Fossé, Bancrédito’s president and CEO. “Our partnership with i2c allows us to quickly integrate with American Express to offer scalable payment solutions on a reliable and differentiated platform that enhances our end-user experience.”

In August, i2c partnered with Mexican lender Credijusto to provide a new American Express credit card for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Mexico this year. The card is geared for business owners to use instead of their personal payment cards, as PYMNTS reported. The card features unlimited cashback, next-generation security, 40 days of financing and virtual card capabilities, all powered by the Covalto app. The program is designed to reduce onboarding time and give customers immediate credit access.

Also this summer, i2c announced its partnership with lending company KEO and Mexican customer loyalty program PAYBACK to provide financing in Mexico in a more inclusive manner, PYMNTS reported. The partnership will aim to provide consumer credit availability and financial inclusion in Mexico via a fully digital underwriting process that will give quick credit approval for users, without any credit checks or paperwork.
