Payroll App Provider Ranking Finds Quiet At The Intersection Of The App Economy And Payday

payroll app

Were it not for one single notable change, we could just as easily refer you to the PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Payroll Apps from last month. Again, this group is sitting tight. Still. Motionless.

We don’t shirk our sacred duty to track these apps through the digital wilderness, no matter how little sign they may leave. That’s part of the value — along with this chirpy prose.

That said, let’s go check out the apps that get people paid, and how they’re faring.

The Top 5

At No. 1 we’ve got Paycheck Flex that can run payroll, integrate HR administration, handle retirement and insurance management — the whole deal. Go big or go home, as they say.

Hot on its heels for another cycle at No. 2 is the popular Paycor app, which filed to go public back in April on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol PYCR.

Firm at No. 3 is Alliance MyPay, pursued as it was last cycle by mighty Square Payroll at No. 4. Square is considering building a hardware bitcoin wallet that would give users more control over their cryptocurrency, said its CEO in early June. Not sure that has anything to do with the payroll side of things, and we’re not sure it doesn’t. Best to be thorough at such times.

Sticking at No. 5 after first attaining that chart position last cycle is the app for the Zenefits human resource information system (HRIS) platform. Way to hold your ground, Zenefits.

The Top 10

Now, for the changes — scant though they may be. Isn’t that the fun part?

In the case of QuickBooks Payroll, it’s about rising one chart position to No. 6. As of late May, the Bookkeeper360 App now connects into QuickBooks Online (QBO), as we reported.

Dropping one spot to No. 7 this month is the fully loaded TriNet HR app designed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Coming in at No. 8 for another spin of the wheel it’s RUN Powered By ADP, whose corporate cousin the ADP National Employment Report was good enough to inform the nation on June 30 that the U.S. economy has added 3 million private sector jobs in 2021 — including 692,000 new posts in June alone — and welcome news it is. Or was. We’ll see what happens.

At No. 9 one more time it’s the Rippling app from the eponymous employee management platform for HR, payroll, benefits administration and related IT things. Kind of covers it all.

PYMNTS Provider Ranking of Payroll Apps leaves you on a meditative note, as we did last month, with the Payrollguru app engineered for SMBs. We don’t have a mantra, but if we did, we’d find a way to mention it right here. Until next time — be nice to your employees.
