The “Preferred Sources” button is designed to make it easier for readers to find their favorite publications in Google’s Top Stories, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and to provide a new way for publishers to connect with readers across Google, according to the post.
“So far, people have already selected more than 600,000 unique sources,” Mrinalini Loew, general manager, Google Search Ecosystem said in the post.
Google also announced Thursday that it will launch a new feature in the Google app within days that will allow users to tailor their Discover feed. Users will be able to tap any three-dot menu in their feed, tell Google in their own words what they want to see more or less of, and then see Google adjust their feed immediately, per the post.
“By letting you refine your tastes in real time, Discover can connect you with content that genuinely matches what you care about right now,” Loew said in the post.
A third personalization feature announced Thursday by Google makes it easier for users to customize their daily audio briefings in the Google News app on Android. Users can curate their briefings by choosing specific topics and can explore topics by clicking links to full articles, according to the post.
“These new personalization features make your Google experience uniquely yours,” Loew said in the post. “And with the new Preferred Source button, it’s a breeze to stay connected to the sites you like most.”
Google introduced another “Preferred Sources” feature in August 2025. With that feature, users can customize their news experience in Search by searching for a topic in the news, clicking on an icon to the right of Top Stories, searching for and selecting their preferred sources, and refreshing the results to see more links to their favorite sites, Google said at the time in a blog post.
In December, Google began expanding that Preferred Sources feature to globally, to English-language users worldwide.
