Sionic Debuts Free CODE Pay Local Merchant App

Consumer-to-business (C2B) payments firm Sionic has debuted CODE Pay, a free mobile app for local merchants to accept real-time, bank-to-bank, lower-cost cash deposits from customers at the point of sale (POS), according to a company press release Tuesday (July 12).

“We are excited to give local merchants a fast and easy way to accept real-time payments from customers,” said Sionic Vice President of Strategy and Product Erica Burris in the release. “The app works with any point of sale and also gives merchants a simple way for customers to order and pay ahead for either in-store or takeout consumption.”

CODE Pay uses Sionic’s new pay-by-bank solution to enable real-time cash deposits for merchants at checkout while bypassing card swipe fees, the release stated. The mobile app and service offsets rising labor and food or merchandise costs for local merchants.

Sionic is also offering local merchants a bundled service to process both bank and card payments with consolidated, instant reporting and analytics all from their mobile device using CODE Pay, according to the release.

Earlier this month, Sionic released online and mobile widgets that accept real-time, bank-to-bank digital donations, allowing instant, lower-cost cash deposits to nonprofits from donors. The service lets nonprofits receive direct deposit and one-time or recurring donations while avoiding credit card swipe fees and immediately accessing to funds.

Sionic’s past work in this sector involved facilitating digital donations for nonprofits via its Shop2Give mobile app and platform. The company has built on this experience to become the first provider to give nonprofits the ability to accept real-time payments for donations.

Sionic is also offering bundled payments, which let nonprofits access both pay-by-bank and pay-by-card widgets, combining donations inside a single platform. The company will process all card payments through Visa’s Cybersource, accepting bank payments through the RTP Network.
