Card Use Three Times More Popular In Scandanavia Than in Austria

A recent study reveals that Austrian consumers’ favorite method of spending remains cash while credit card or bank cards are used just four times a month on average. In Sweden, Finland and Denmark, cards are used roughly three times as often.

    One of the main reasons why people still prefer cash in Austria is that it is reasonably easy to get hold of, a study from Capgemini explains, while in other countries getting money often comes with high charges. When Austrians do use cards it’s often to get cash rather than pay directly.

    The study also found that near-field communication (NFC) is nearly non-existent in Austria, and that payments using mobile telephones were only accounting for a very small part of the total commerce picture.
