Google Wallet Buys TxVia, As Another Engineer Leaves

On the same day that Google Wallet announced the acquisition of TxVia, a mobile payment platform, another of its engineers has left the company. 

Rob von Behren, one of the project’s cofounding engineers, has left Google Wallet to join Square. According to NFC Times, von Behren left Google’s Wallet project in January, but only recently decided to move to the payments competitor founded by Jack Dorsey.

Meanwhile, Google says it has acquired TxVia for an undisclosed purchase price. In a blog post announcing the deal, Google’s VP of Wallet and Payments Osama Bedier says TxVia “has supported the management of more than 100 million accounts” since 2008 (2). Based in New York City, TxVia had raised $55.4 million in equity funding to date according to TechCrunch (3). Anil D. Aggarwal is TxVia’s CEO.
