ScanLife Survey Shows Massive Increase In QR Code Usage

QR codes are gaining momentum in the payments and marketing industries. This we know, and we’ve covered some QR code innovations pretty extensively this week.

But exactly how quickly is this field expanding? That’s a question ScanLife answers in their latest report for Q2 2012, and the results are pretty staggering.

QR code scans-per-minute are a whopping five times greater now than they were a year ago, averaging 24 per minute in 2011 and 120 per minute now. In Q2 of 2011, the single largest QR code campaign brought in 30,016 unique scans. This year, the largest campaign rang in at 2,051,807 unique scans.

Overall four million new people scanned using ScanLife in the second quarter of 2012 alone.

The study also reveals some interesting demographic stats. Consumers age 25-34 comprise 26 percent of all scans, while the 35-44 age group is a close second at 24 percent. Men are more than twice as likely as women to scan codes, while Android users comprise 53 percent of the market compared to just 43 percent for Apple.
