Barclays Blames Mobile For Branch Layoffs

Barclays is citing the growth of mobile banking as a contributing factor for its reduction in branch staff, according to a November 15 story from Finextra.

Barclays staff were reportedly told that mobile banking, as well as other new banking channels, had reduced the need for in-person services. Managers, personal bankers and cashiers, among other branch staff, are facing the risk of lay-offs starting next year.

Barclays intends to reduce 1,700 positions in 2014.
