Food Stamp Payments Halted By Computer Failure

A computer failure on Saturday resulted in a food stamp purchasing halt in some parts of the country, according to a CNN report.

The shutdown started at 11 a.m., Xerox spokeswoman Karen Arena told CNN that the company was working on the issue.

The Department of Agriculture, administer of the food stamp program, has been furloughed due to the government shutdown, and its website was therefore not updated on Saturday. The computer program was said to have been “unrelated to the government shutdown.”
