Irish Merchants Slack With eCommerce Sales

According to a new report by the Irish International Business Network, only one-in-six (16.2 percent) Irish businesses think extending business on eCommerce is important for growth, reported Silicon Republic. The report underscores the importance of online retail and reveals that the average Irish adult consumer spends 1,392 euros every year on eCommerce.

    Irish merchants are behind with online sales, however they are heavily involved with exporting products and services. Sixty percent of Irish-based firms said they export their products out of the country, which exceeds the 40 percent of British merchants who said the same.

    “While it’s encouraging to see so many Irish-based businesses exporting their products around the world, we still seem slow to embrace modern technology to help grow our businesses, compared to Irish business people abroad,” said Niall Fenton, chairman of the IIBN Dublin Chapter.
