Rakuten-Funded Marketplace App Raises $800K

Singapore-based consumer marketplace app Carousell revealed $800,000 in new funding on November 13, TechCrunch reported.

The seed funding round was led by Rakuten, and included participation from Golden Gate Ventures and 500 Startups. Carousell plans to use the funding to expand its Asia-Pacific presence, entering new markets such as Indonesia and Malaysia.

Carousell styles itself as a social alternative to online classifieds. Its features include mobile-optimized web pages and photo filters.
