Report: UK To Ban Payday Lenders From Advertising

Payday loan businesses may be prohibited from future advertising according to a new legislation. At present, the potential law is under current review by the financial regulator, reported the Daily Mail. The news follows a summit that included ministers and lenders in the UK who addressed their growing concerns about the payday sector. The summit attendees are frustrated because they believe payday lenders often target advertising messages to financially unfit customers such as young adults, students and low-income families.

    Treasury Minister, Sajid Javid commented about the FCA’s potential involvement to change the trends, and stated, “If there is any evidence of irresponsible lending, bad practices, rogue lenders, the regulator has a very important power independently to intervene in that market and to change the rules.”
