Steven Antonakes Named CFPB’s Top Deputy

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has named Steven Antonakes as its newest deputy director, Bloomberg reported on September 4.

Antonakes had been the organization’s acting deputy since January. He will continue to head bank supervision, enforcement and fair lending in the new position, according to the media outlet.

“CBA congratulates Steven Antonakes on being named the permanent deputy director of the CFPB,” Richard Hunt, president and CEO of the Consumer Bankers Association, said in a September 4 statement. “His background as a career bank examiner and as the Commissioner of Banks for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts provides the CFPB with the needed expertise to level the playing field between banks and non-banks as mandated by Dodd-Frank.”
