Offering a mobile payments scheme for transportation services marks as another first for Turkey. The technology was created through integrating the Turkcell Wallet and Urfakart the Turkish public transportation card, with the help of Sanliurfa Municipality, Turkcell, Belsan and Asis.

The mPayment feature provides a simplified travel process for customers, as they will be able to submit payments through their mobile phones. Users can add Urfakart on their phone by downloading the Turkcell Wallet through the App Store or Googleplay.

Customers can cut time and pay for travel while they are transit. Users are also given the option to top up accounts and check balances all through mobile phones. The collaboration eliminates the need to find pay points to access account information or top up using cash.

Sureyya Ciliv, general manager at Turkcell, commented in a press conference reported by Wall Street Journal, “We, as Turkcell, are leading the way in terms of mobile communication technology that are not only reshaping the world but also changing the way of doing business in sectors such as transportation, finance, education and health.”

The Turkcell Wallet, currently used by 1.2 million people in Turkey, was first launched in October 2012. The mobile wallet was said to be one of the most advanced mobile wallets introduced and set example for payment providers around the world. Turkcell hopes the new collaboration offered in Sanliurfa transportation will continue to inspire and lead other provinces moving forward.
