Vodafone Takes Part In Mobile Payments Pilot In Milan

Banca Mediolanum in Italy, announced the start of an NFC mobile payments pilot in Milan. The pilot includes a partnership with mobile network operator, Vodafone Italia, and involves 60 consumers.

    The pilot participants have been provided with a Samsung Galazy S III by Mediolanum Mobile Pay to start testing the payments program. The phones were sent equipped with Banca Mediolanum’s mobile app, and include an NFC sim card provided by Vodafone.

    The bank announced the trial would run in Milan until the commercial launch, which has been set for early 2014.

    Banca Mediolanum told NFC World, “The test has a double purpose; to test the new service from the technical point of view and from an experiential one, in order to collect qualitative feedback to understand properly the user experience and to position Banca Mediolanum among the first movers in Italy in the mobile payments service.”
