Warby Parker Eyes Its Own MPOS Solution

Online prescription eyeglass retailer Warby Parker is creating its own point of sale (POS) system, All Things D reports.

Warby Parker reached the decision six weeks before it was to open its first physical retail location in New York. The company had the option of choosing from 30 different POS vendors, but elected to pursue a customized solution after learning these providers would not be able to fulfill its customer experience vision.

“Even though we felt like we found the best vendor, we realized it just wasn’t going to be a long-term tech partner for us, and the only way we were going to be able to get what we needed was to build it ourself,” Kyle Ashley, director of retail at Warby Parker, told the media outlet.

The company wants the ability to bill customers only when orders ship and to enter prescription information at the time of purchase, among other services.
