Apple Exec Eddy Cue Explores The Apple Pay Experience

Apple SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue was featured yesterday on The Tech Report in a segment that utilized the iPhone 6 to make purchases using the newest mobile wallets solution, Apple Pay.

Cue’s first demonstration involved Panera’s mobile app, which he used to order breakfast before picking it up at the restaurant. Next stop: Bloomingdales, where Cue picked up some sunglasses, paying for them using his iPhone’s using the TouchID feature at the sales terminal. (Given the high purchase total Cue was then prompted to sign for the purchase, but Apple hopes to eliminate this step in the near future.)

Next stop: The Disney Store to purchase two dolls for his children, where Cue called the checkout process was easy and “equally magical.”

From there, he headed over to the Apple store to get some new iPads. Currently the iPads can only be used to shop in-app, not in-stores, but the process is still secure and simple.

Noting a key security feature of Apple Pay, Cue said, “You’ve seen these hacks that are happening in the systems where thousands of credit cards are getting exposed, and so you have try to protect that number. Well, with Apple Pay, the number that’s being given to the terminal is a one-time number that’s created for that transaction.”
