Earlier this year, Amazon announced the launch of Prime Pantry, a grocery service that will allow Primer Users to ship as much as 45 pounds of groceries to their home for a flat shipping fee of $45. In more bad news for super-markets everywhere, Groupon is now also targeting the value conscious home goods shopper with its new Basics service, which allows consumers to purchase over 100 household, hygiene and health products from companies like Gillette, Dove and Burt's Bees at a discount.
As a further incentive, Groupon is also offering 5 percent "cash" back in Groupon Bucks and free shipping for order of more than $25.
Currently the service is only available in the United States. Groupon has further indicated interest in expanding in grocery services in the future, putting it into direct competition with Amazon's service.
